Eighth Pay Commission: The government decided to form the Eighth Pay Commission earlier this year. But according to the Finance Ministry, the notification for the formal appointment of its chairman and its members is still awaited. Giving a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that before issuing the notification for the Eighth Pay Commission, inputs have been sought from the major shareholders as well as the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defense and other ministries.
Awaiting appointment of CPC Chief
On the question of the delay in the formation of the panel despite the announcement of the Eighth Pay Commission in January by MPs TR Balu and Anand Bhadoria, the Minister of State for Finance said that the new pay scale will be implemented only when the recommendation is made by the Pay Commission and the government accepts it. However, despite six months having passed since the announcement of the formation of the CPC, a formal notification regarding the appointment of the members of the Pay Commission and its Chairman is yet to be issued.
Demand for details of the Eighth Pay Commission
After there being no clarity about the formation of the Pay Commission, the MPs have now demanded detailed details about the delay in it, the appointment of the Chairman and members and its Terms of Reference. It is worth noting that the Terms of Reference (TOR) is awaited from the Finance Ministry, including the formation of the Chairman of the Pay Commission and its members. The Terms of Reference regarding the Eighth Pay Commission has neither been finalized nor has it been notified.
It is worth noting that the Pay Commission is constituted every 10 years to review the increase in the salary and pension of central employees. The Commission recommends increasing other facilities including basic allowances and bonus in view of inflation and other things.
