8th Pay Commission: Mumbai meeting schedule finalized; find out the application deadline.

Employee organizations will gather in Mumbai after Dussehra to present their demands to the Pay Commission. The Commission has already announced the dates for this event. Discussions will cover various issues, including the fitment factor.

The 8th Central Pay Commission (8th CPC) has announced the dates for its upcoming meeting in Mumbai. Chaired by former Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, the Commission is visiting various cities across the country to engage with stakeholders, discuss their demands, and understand ground-level issues, thereby aiding in the preparation of its report. As part of this process, employee organizations are set to convene in Mumbai.

When will the meeting take place in Mumbai?

The Commission will hold a two-day meeting in Mumbai on October 22 and 23—following Dussehra—with representatives from central government employee organizations, institutions, associations, and unions. The Pay Commission has requested interested stakeholders to schedule an appointment by October 10, 2026, to participate in the meeting. Additionally, participants are required to provide the 'Unique Memo ID'—generated upon submitting a memorandum via the official 8th CPC website. Prior to this, the Pay Commission is scheduled to meet with stakeholders in Bengaluru on October 7 and 8.

Where was the previous meeting held?

The Commission recently concluded a two-day meeting in Chandigarh, which began on September 18, 2026. During this meeting, various employee organizations and stakeholders from Chandigarh and surrounding areas presented their demands to the Commission. Following the 8th CPC meeting in Chandigarh, several stakeholders—including the Nurse Welfare Association (NWA) and the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER)—met with the Commission and submitted their memoranda.

What are the key demands of the employee unions?

The primary demand of employee organizations is to raise the fitment factor to 3.833; if approved, this would result in a substantial increase in basic salary.
Another demand from the unions is to revise the minimum basic salary—currently set at ₹18,000 under the 7th Pay Commission—upwards to account for rising inflation.
Pensioners and unions are strongly advocating for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme and a revision of pensionary benefits.
Demands are also consistently being raised for improvements in Military Service Pay (MSP) for armed forces personnel, as well as for revisions to House Rent Allowance (HRA) and risk allowance, and the upgrading of healthcare facilities.
