The notification regarding the meeting to be held in Lucknow was issued on May 21, 2026, on the official website of the 8th Pay Commission. Constituted by the Central Government on November 3, 2025, this commission's tour marks a significant step toward determining the salary, allowance, and pension structure for over 11 million central government employees and pensioners across the country.
Which Issues Will Be Discussed?
It is reported that during the two-day marathon meetings in Lucknow, representatives of employee organizations are expected to present their views before the commission regarding the minimum basic salary and the new fitment factor. They are likely to demand an upward revision of the fitment factor; noting that the fitment factor under the 7th Pay Commission was 2.57, they are now seeking to increase it to a range of 3.68 to 3.83. If the commission accepts the demand for a fitment factor of 3.83, the minimum basic salary of central government employees would see a direct increase from the current ₹18,000 to ₹69,000 per month.
