8th Pay Commission: There is a buzz among central government employees regarding the 8th Pay Commission. As of now, no official update has been released concerning it. However, a decision on the matter is expected very soon.

8th Pay Commission: Central government employees and pensioners are currently awaiting the announcement of the 8th Pay Commission. It is anticipated that the 8th Pay Commission will bring significant relief to them. If implemented soon, employees could witness a substantial increase in their 'take-home' salary. Here, we explain the underlying calculations associated with this development.

How Much Could the Salary Increase?

According to experts, the 8th Pay Commission may raise the 'fitment factor' from the current 2.57 to 3.5 or higher. An increase in the fitment factor has a direct impact on the basic salary. For instance, if an employee's minimum basic salary is ₹18,000, the new fitment factor could push this figure up to a range of approximately ₹25,000 to ₹30,000. Consequently, your total salary will see a substantial boost.

The 'Take-Home' Salary Formula

Revised Basic Pay = Current Basic Pay × Fitment Factor

Impact on 'Take-Home' Salary

An increase in basic salary will also result in a corresponding rise in Dearness Allowance (DA).
House Rent Allowance (HRA) and other allowances will also increase.
As the total gross salary rises, the actual 'in-hand' salary will be higher.

However, in some instances, an increase in Provident Fund (PF) contributions and other deductions might initially cause a slight variation in the take-home amount; nevertheless, the overall financial benefit will remain substantial.

What Does 'Take-Home' Salary Comprise?

Your monthly salary consists of not just the basic pay, but also a multitude of other allowances. Let us explain. Basic Pay: Approximately 51.5%
Dearness Allowance (DA): Approximately 30.9%
HRA: Approximately 15.4%
Transport Allowance: Approximately 2.2%

It is worth noting that the DA is initially reset; therefore, under the new commission, even though there is an increase in the Basic Salary, your first payslip may not reflect a very substantial overall hike.

It should be noted that there has been a delay this time regarding the announcement of the 8th Pay Commission. This has caused considerable stir among employees. The announcement, which is typically made by the end of March, has not yet taken place. Consequently, a sense of uncertainty persists among the workforce. However, it is expected that the announcement will be made very soon.
