8th Pay Commission: The central government has approved the 8th Pay Commission, which will benefit more than 1 crore employees and pensioners. The new salary can be implemented from January 1, 2026. An increase in basic salary, pension, NPS, and CGHS contribution is considered certain.

8th Pay Commission: The central government has given the green signal to the 8th Pay Commission. This decision will directly benefit more than 1 crore central employees and pensioners of the country. It is expected that its effect will be visible from January 1, 2026. This time there can be a significant increase in salary and pension.

Salary will be decided by fitment factor

Fitment factor plays an important role in salary determination. In the 7th Pay Commission it was 2.57. In the 8th Pay Commission it is proposed to make it 2.86. If this is implemented, the minimum basic salary can increase from Rs 18,000 to about Rs 51,480. At the same time, the minimum pension can increase from Rs 9,000 to about Rs 25,740. However, the final decision will be taken by the members of the commission.

8th Pay Commission: There will be changes in allowances too

This time not only the basic salary, but allowances will also improve. Especially House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Travel Allowance (TA) can increase. These allowances depend on the location of the employee's posting and the nature of work. Due to this, a difference can be seen in the total salary of two employees of the same grade.

Contribution will increase in NPS and CGHS

With the implementation of the new salary, the contribution to the National Pension System (NPS) and Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) will also increase. Currently, employees deposit 10 percent of their basic salary and DA in NPS and the government contributes 14 percent. This contribution will also increase with the increase in salary. At the same time, the membership fee of CGHS is also based on the salary slab, which will be revised according to the increased salary.

Possible salary in different grades

If the proposed fitment factor is implemented, then the possible salary in different grades can be as follows

Basic salary in grade 2000 (level 3) can go up to Rs 57,456, gross salary up to Rs 74,845.

Gross salary in grade 4200 (level 6) can be up to about Rs 1,19,798.

In grade 5400 (level 9), it can increase to Rs 1,81,073.

At the same time, this salary in grade 6600 (level 11) can be up to Rs 2,35,920.

Estimates at present, final recommendation awaited

All these figures are based on initial estimates and proposals. The final recommendations will be prepared by the 8th Pay Commission and will be implemented only after approval from the government. If these changes are implemented, not only will the salary increase, but there will also be improvement in the pension received after retirement, NPS deposits and health cover.

Waiting for the report of the commission

At present, the commission has been constituted. The report is expected to be submitted to the government by the end of 2025 so that the new salary structure can be implemented from 2026.
