However, now the central government has prepared to speed up the process by consulting with major stakeholders, including the states, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Department of Personnel and Training. This information was given by the Finance Ministry.

Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that suggestions have been sought from major stakeholders regarding the 8th Pay Commission. After the commission is formally notified by the government, the chairman and members of the 8th Pay Commission will be appointed.

On the one hand, various questions are arising in the minds of government employees regarding the formation of the commission, and on the other hand, how much salary will be increased?

It is being reported that there will be less increase in the 8th Pay Commission as compared to the 7th Pay Commission. Such reports have shocked lakhs of employees. However, until the 8th Pay Commission is formed and recommendations are made, it would be wrong to say how much the salary will increase.

Employees waiting for update

Ever since the 8th Pay Commission has been announced by the government, more than 1 crore central employees and pensioners are waiting for updates on its formation and how much their salary will increase.

The 7th Pay Commission is being constituted in December 2025. In such a situation, the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented from January 2026. In such a situation, one question is whether the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented on time or not.

It is known that every 10 years the government revises the basic salary of its employees and the pension of pensioners in accordance with the rising cost of living and other expenses.

How much will the salary increase in the 8th Pay Commission?

Amid the delay in the process of formation of the 8th Pay Commission, the report of Kotak Institutional Equities regarding salary hike has spoiled the happiness of government employees.

The report said that under the 8th Pay Commission, employees may get a lesser salary hike of 13 percent, whereas under the 7th Pay Commission, a salary hike of 14.3 percent was done.

The report said that the fitment factor for the 8th Pay Commission can be fixed at 1.8 percent. The 7th Pay Commission fitment factor was 2.57 percent. According to this report, the salary of government employees will not increase as expected.
