7,000 or 21,000? New update on central government employees' bonus; find out when the money will be received..
PLB Bonus Update: With the onset of the festive season, central government employees eagerly await their annual bonus. Speculation regarding the Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) for Group B and C non-gazetted employees has intensified. Employee unions have begun pressuring the government to release the bonus before Dussehra. The primary issue is not merely the date of disbursement but also the bonus amount itself; employees want the government to immediately revise the existing limit used to calculate the bonus.
**Funds Likely in the First Week of October**
Regarding the bonus payment, the Joint Council of Postal Employees wrote to the Secretary of the Department of Posts on September 25. The letter demands that the bonus amount be credited to accounts before Durga Puja, which falls on October 21. Typically, the government releases the PLB before Dussehra each year; this year, Dussehra falls on October 20. A senior official from the All India Defence Employees Federation (AIDEF) indicated that the bonus could be announced in the first week of October. Avinash Rajput, General Secretary of the Bharat Pensioners Samaj, has also expressed strong optimism that the funds will be received before Dussehra.
**Strong Demand to Raise Bonus Limit**
Currently, the government calculates the bonus based on a monthly limit of ₹7,000. Several organizations, including the National Council for Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM), are demanding that this limit be raised to ₹21,000. In a letter to the Cabinet Secretary, NC-JCM Secretary Shiva Gopal Mishra clearly stated that since the government itself has set the minimum wage at ₹21,000, the bonus calculation limit should certainly not be lower than that figure. According to a notification from the Ministry of Labour, the minimum wage for unskilled workers stands at approximately ₹21,000.
**How much amount will be credited to the account?**
Currently, the calculation is based on a figure of ₹7,000 over days. Based on this, employees receive a bonus of ₹6,908. Employees argue that in these times of high inflation, ₹6,908 is a very small amount for anyone living in a city. If the government accedes to the demands of employee unions and raises the limit to ₹21,000, employees would receive a bonus of approximately ₹20,724.
**Ordnance factory employees are protesting**
AIDEF is staging a strong protest on September 30 regarding the bonus issue. This protest is directed against the government's decision to calculate the bonus for employees of four ordnance factories based on 18.56 days instead of 30 days. These factories include those located in Shahjahanpur, Kanpur, Avadi, and Hazratpur. The organization firmly demands that these employees also be granted a bonus calculated for the full 30 days, based on the ₹21,000 limit.
