659 New Medical Seats Added for NEET UG Round 2; 11,302 Seats Completely Vacant

The seat matrix for the second round of NEET UG counseling has now been released. According to the MCC, a total of 659 new seats have been added to the matrix, while 11,302 seats are available as ‘clear vacancies.’

The seat availability scenario is now clear for candidates awaiting admission to medical colleges through the second round of NEET UG counseling. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has released the Round 2 seat matrix, detailing the 15% All India Quota seats for MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing courses. While 659 new seats have been added, 11,302 seats are listed as clear vacancies. Additionally, 12,283 seats have been categorized as ‘virtual vacancies.’

659 New Seats Added in Round 2

The seat matrix released by the MCC includes a total of 659 new seats across MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing programs. These seats have been added across various medical and dental colleges as well as nursing institutions. Candidates should check the seat matrix to see how many seats are available in their preferred colleges and courses. Apart from the new seats, a large number of seats remained vacant after the first round; these have been included in the clear vacancy category.

11,302 Seats Listed as Clear Vacancies

According to the Round 2 seat matrix, 11,302 seats are available as clear vacancies. ‘Clear vacancy’ refers to seats that remained completely unoccupied after the first round—meaning no candidate was admitted to these seats during Round 1. These vacant seats include spots at some of the country’s prominent medical institutions, such as AIIMS Patna, AIIMS Raipur, and AIIMS Guwahati.

12,283 Seats Listed as Virtual Vacancies

The MCC has designated 12,283 seats as “virtual vacancies.” These are seats currently allotted to candidates in Round 1 who have opted for the “float” option to seek an upgrade. If such a candidate moves to a different preferred seat in Round 2, their current seat may become vacant and subsequently available for the next candidate in line. Therefore, candidates should also consider these virtual vacancy seats while filling their choices for Round 2.

Seat Matrix Released Across Categories

The MCC has released the seat matrix for Round 2, categorized by specific groups. It provides details on newly added seats as well as “clear” and “virtual” vacancies. Candidates can view the available seats for MBBS, BDS, and B.Sc. Nursing courses according to their respective categories. The seat matrix is ​​particularly useful for identifying the number of seats available in specific colleges and courses.

Registration Commenced Yesterday

Registration for Round 2 of the NEET UG Counseling 2026 began on September 3, 2026. Candidates can register until September 8, 2026. Following registration, candidates must submit their preferred college and course choices; the deadline for choice filling is September 9, 2026. Subsequently, the seat allotment process will be conducted on September 9 and 10, with the Round 2 seat allotment results scheduled for release on September 11. Candidates allotted a seat in Round 2 must physically report to the college to complete the admission process between September 12 and September 18, 2026. Finally, on September 19, the MCC and the respective state authorities will verify the data of the participating candidates.
