5 kg LPG Cylinder: How much does a 5 kg LPG cylinder cost? Find out how much you have to pay for a refill..
5kg Gas Cylinder Booking Rules: In recent times, the country has witnessed several changes regarding LPG gas services. Amidst these developments, the 5kg 'Chhotu Cylinder' has emerged as a convenient and affordable option for small families, students, and individuals living alone. According to recent data, over 1.3 million (13 lakh) 5kg cylinders have been sold since March 23. While approximately 77,000 cylinders were sold daily in the past, this figure has now surged to over 100,000 per day. The primary reasons for this surge are its easy availability and minimal paperwork requirements.
**Connection Available Without Address Proof**
In fact, the most distinctive feature of the 5kg 'Chhotu Cylinder' is that it does not require local address proof to obtain. You can secure a new connection simply by presenting your Aadhaar card. This is precisely why it is proving to be immensely useful for students, working professionals, and migrant laborers.
**What is the Price?**
In terms of pricing, the refill cost for a 5kg cylinder was previously ₹598. However, this price has now risen to approximately ₹649—marking a recent increase of ₹51. Meanwhile, if you wish to obtain a new connection, the initial cost typically ranges between ₹1,450 and ₹1,700. This price covers the cost of the cylinder, the regulator, and the initial gas filling.
**How Can You Get a 5kg LPG Cylinder Connection?**
As mentioned earlier, a major highlight of this cylinder is that it does not require proof of a local address to obtain. To get a connection:
* Visit your nearest gas distributor.
* Present any valid proof of identity—such as an Aadhaar card, Office ID, or College ID.
* You will then be required to pay a small security deposit.
* Once these steps are completed, you can immediately take the cylinder home with you.
* Furthermore, should you decide to discontinue the connection in the future, returning the cylinder within five years entitles you to a refund of approximately 50% of your initial security deposit.
