The Central Government has approved a proposal for a 30-day ad-hoc bonus for its eligible employees for the accounting year 2025-26. This information is based on an Office Memorandum issued by the Department of Expenditure on October 15.

**Employees eligible for the bonus**

This bonus covers Group C and non-gazetted Group B employees who are not already covered under any productivity-linked bonus scheme. Eligible employees of the Central Armed Police Forces and the Armed Forces are also entitled to this bonus. Additionally, employees of Union Territories who follow the Central Government’s pay structure are also eligible.

**How the bonus is calculated**

A monthly emolument ceiling of ₹7,000 has been set for the purpose of calculating the bonus. If an employee’s average monthly emoluments exceed this limit, the calculation will be based on the ₹7,000 ceiling. According to the established formula, a 30-day bonus will amount to approximately ₹6,908.

**Conditions under which the bonus amount may be lower**

The actual bonus amount may be lower if an employee’s average monthly emoluments are below the specified limit, or if the employee is eligible for the bonus for only a portion of the year. It is important to note that to be eligible for the bonus, an employee must be in service as of March 31, 2026, and must have completed at least six months of continuous service during the 2025-26 period. Rules for those with a service period of a few months

Employees who have served for a period between six months and one full year will receive a bonus on a pro-rata basis (proportional to the duration of their service). The eligible service period will be calculated in months. The memorandum outlines separate eligibility criteria for casual laborers.

Separate conditions for casual laborers

For casual laborers, if an individual works in an office that follows a six-day work week, they must have completed at least 240 days of work in each of the preceding three years. In offices that follow a five-day work week, the requirement is to have completed 206 days of work in each of the preceding three years.

Formula for bonus calculation

A specific formula will be used to calculate the bonus. Under this formula, the average monthly emoluments are multiplied by 30 and then divided by 30.4. This can be illustrated with an example: if an employee’s average monthly emoluments are ₹7,000, this amount is multiplied by 30, and the resulting figure is then divided by 30.4.

₹7,000 × 30 ÷ 30.4 = ₹6,907.89, which rounds to ₹6,908.

Employees who have completed less than 12 months of eligible service will receive a bonus on a pro-rata basis. The bonus amount will be met from the sanctioned budget provisions of the respective ministries.
