2000 Rs Note Exchange: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) keeps making changes related to notes from time to time. On May 19, 2023, the RBI announced the withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes. At that time, the total value of these notes was Rs 3.56 lakh crore. According to a Moneycontrol report, only Rs 6,017 crore worth of notes are left.

That is, 98.31% of the notes have returned to the banking system. Still, many people may have these notes kept at home. If you are one of them, then this news is for you.

How can you change Rs 2000 notes?

RBI has stopped the facility of exchanging these notes in banks from October 9, 2023. Now you can deposit or exchange them only in 19 issue offices of the RBI. These offices are in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, and Thiruvananthapuram. At these places, you can deposit your notes or get the amount transferred to your bank account.

Apart from this, you can send these notes from your nearest post office to any RBI issue office. For this, you will have to fill out an application form, in which you will have to give your bank details and information about the notes. Along with this, a copy of the identity card will also have to be sent. After the RBI receives the notes, the money will be deposited in your account.

This facility is especially beneficial for those who live in small towns or villages. So, if you have 2000-rupee notes lying with you, then deposit them quickly. Avoid delaying, because the RBI has made it clear that these notes are valid, but their circulation is almost over now. You can do these things to keep your money safe.

Why were 2000-rupee notes removed?
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had decided to remove the 2000 rupee note from circulation on 19 May 2023 under its "Clean Note Policy". The purpose of this policy is to remove old or less-used notes from the system. RBI had earlier given people until 30 September 2023 to change these notes, but later this deadline was extended further.

2000-rupee notes were first introduced in November 2016. At that time, the government had discontinued the old 500 and 1000 rupee notes, which were called demonetization. Then the 2000-rupee note was introduced as a new currency. But RBI stopped printing these notes in 2018-19. The reason for this was that now 100, 200, 500, and other value notes are present in large quantities in the market. RBI said that when the need for small notes is being fulfilled, there is no longer any need for 2000-rupee notes.

Therefore, it was decided to gradually remove these notes from circulation. Now people can deposit them through the RBI's special office or post office, so that their money remains safe.
