RBI latest statement on Rs 2000: RBI had demonetized two thousand rupee notes on May 19, 2023. The government had given time to the common people to deposit the notes in the bank. But still, people were left with notes of Rs 2,000. If you also have a Rs 2000 note, you can still get it exchanged. Recently RBI has given a big update regarding the Rs 2000 note.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday said that 97.76 percent of the demonetized Rs 2,000 notes have returned to the banking system. The Central Bank said that only Rs 7,961 crore of notes are currently with the public.

RBI said in the statement that the withdrawal of Rs 2000 note was announced on May 19, 2023. At the end of the day, the value of Rs 2000 notes present in the market was Rs 3.56 lakh crore.

Now on April 30, 2024, only Rs 7,961 crore worth notes are in the market. The bank said, 'Thus, 97.76 percent of the Rs 2,000 notes have been returned.' However, the Rs 2000 note is legal tender.

Where can people exchange notes?

People can deposit Rs 2000 notes or exchange them for other notes at 19 RBI offices across the country. People can also send Rs 2000 notes through Indian Post to any office of RBI and deposit the equivalent amount in their bank accounts. Rs 2000 notes were issued after the RBI demonetized Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes in November 2016.
