Odisha Transfers ₹1,041 Crore to 51 Lakh Farmers: ₹2,000 Each Credited Ahead of Nuakhai Festival

The Odisha government has delivered a big festive gift to farmers across the state. Ahead of the Nuakhai agricultural festival, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi transferred ₹1,041 crore directly into the bank accounts of 51 lakh farmers. Each farmer has received ₹2,000, offering timely financial support during the crucial Rabi cropping season.

Direct Benefit to Farmers

This latest installment comes soon after farmers across the country received the 20th installment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, which credited ₹2,000 to eligible beneficiaries. Now, Odisha’s Mukhyamantri Krushi Suraksha Yojana (Chief Minister’s Farmer Scheme) has added another layer of support, ensuring that small and marginal farmers have additional resources.

Majhi made the announcement on Wednesday, just a day before Nuakhai celebrations, a festival of harvest and gratitude observed widely in western Odisha. This disbursement marks the third installment under the scheme since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) formed the state government in June 2024.

Scheme Details and Payment Schedule

The Chief Minister’s Farmer Scheme provides ₹4,000 annually to eligible farmers, released in two installments of ₹2,000 each. The first payment is sent during Akshaya Tritiya, while the second is credited ahead of Nuakhai.

This recent release is specifically aimed at supporting farmers during the Rabi cropping season. Majhi highlighted that the scheme primarily benefits small and marginal farmers, who form the backbone of Odisha’s agrarian economy.

From KALIA to Mukhyamantri Krushi Suraksha Yojana

Before the BJP government took office, Odisha’s farmers were covered under the KALIA (Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation) scheme, introduced by the previous Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government. KALIA provided ₹4,000 annually to nearly 46 lakh farmers.

Upon assuming power in June 2024, the BJP restructured and rebranded the program, expanding its reach to five lakh additional farmers, taking the total to 51 lakh beneficiaries. Majhi said the revamped scheme reflects the state government’s commitment to increasing rural income and strengthening agricultural livelihoods.

Focus on Diversified Income Sources

During the announcement, Chief Minister Majhi urged farmers to diversify their income sources instead of depending solely on paddy cultivation. He emphasized that fish farming, poultry, and multi-cropping could significantly enhance earnings, especially for small and marginal farmers.

Majhi noted that since the BJP came to power, the income of eligible farmers has risen by at least ₹58,000 over the last 14 months. He added that apart from the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,300 per quintal for paddy, farmers are receiving an additional ₹800 per quintal, bringing their total earnings to ₹3,100 per quintal.

Government’s Vision

“The BJP government is not just aiming to double farmers’ income; we are working to multiply it many times over,” Majhi said, reaffirming the administration’s dedication to agricultural growth and rural development.

With such timely financial aid and a focus on crop diversification, the Odisha government is looking to ensure stability for farmers while driving the state’s agricultural economy forward.
