Trains Cancelled In Mumbai: According to Western Railway (WR) Chief Spokesperson Vineet Abhishek, a major block will be in effect between Borivali and Kandivali from December 26-29 and on January 10 due to work on the sixth line. During this period, 350 trains will be cancelled daily, totaling 1,750 trains, causing significant inconvenience to Mumbai local train commuters.

Trains Cancelled: The next few days could be quite difficult for those traveling on the Western Railway in Mumbai. The railway has decided to implement a major 'block' to complete the work of laying the new sixth track between Borivali and Kandivali. According to Western Railway Chief Spokesperson Vineet Abhishek, approximately 350 local trains will not run daily on December 26, 27, 28, 29, and January 10. This means that a total of 1,750 trains have been cancelled over these 5 days. This could lead to heavy crowds at stations and considerable inconvenience for passengers.

Why are so many trains being cancelled?

The main reason for this major block is the installation of a new and modern signaling system (electronic interlocking) at Borivali station. Spokesperson Vineet Abhishek stated that the work on the sixth line being constructed between Kandivali and Borivali is now in its final stages. The railway aims to commission this new line by January 18. Once this line is operational, it will provide a separate route for fast trains, and local trains will not be delayed frequently in the future.

Train speeds will be reduced and routes will be altered

The trouble is not limited to just train cancellations. From December 20 to January 18, i.e., for an entire month, train speeds will be reduced on this route. Trains will run slowly due to safety reasons, which means that even the trains that are running will arrive late. In addition, several trains going to Borivali and Andheri will be stopped midway at Goregaon station. Passengers will have to use other means of transport to continue their journey from there, which could lead to overcrowding at Goregaon station.

New Year's celebrations will not be affected.

The good news amidst the block is that the railways have decided not to cancel many trains on December 31st, the night of the New Year's celebrations. The administration is making every effort to ensure that people going out that night do not face any inconvenience. BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) has also made preparations to assist passengers. Considering the reduction in train services, extra buses will be operated outside railway stations so that people can easily reach their homes. The railways say that this inconvenience for a few days is necessary for a better travel experience in the future.
