₹74,000 Vanish with a Single Click: Don't Make the Same Mistake as This Bengaluru Man
Encash Fraud: What seemed like an easy way to obtain a loan turned into a nightmare for a 56-year-old man. In his quest to receive money with just a single click, he ended up losing approximately ₹74,000 from his bank account.
Encash Loan Fraud: Securing a loan from a bank often involves a great deal of hassle. It requires checking your eligibility, submitting numerous documents, and even making multiple trips to the bank branch. Consequently, we often look for an easier alternative—especially when we need a small loan to cover minor expenses. In such situations, we tend to place our trust in small apps or micro-loan services that promise to transfer funds directly into our accounts with just a single click. It was precisely this reliance that led to thousands of rupees vanishing from a Bengaluru resident's bank accounts.
What is the Full Story?
In fact, the director of a Bengaluru-based company recently fell victim to just such a scam. According to a report by *The Times of India*, the incident occurred on April 15, when a resident of Banashankari received a text message and a phone call from an unknown number. The message read: "Last day to redeem reward points," and included a link that the recipient was prompted to click.
Trusting the Message Proved Costly
The 56-year-old man trusted the message and the caller, and proceeded to click on the provided link. He was then asked to pay a fee of ₹34 to claim his gifts and reward points. After he made the payment using his credit card, a sum of ₹73,889 was debited from that very card just moments later. Making this seemingly small payment proved to be an extremely costly mistake for the man, resulting in a financial loss amounting to thousands of rupees.
Are You Making These Mistakes Too?
This is a seemingly minor error that can have severe consequences for anyone. Therefore, you must exercise extreme caution to avoid falling into such traps. For instance:
If you receive a call or a text message from an unknown number, simply ignore it. Do not click on any unknown links.
Especially those that read 'Last Day to Redeem'.
If anything of this nature occurs, immediately file a complaint with the police and the cybercrime unit.
