YouTube has officially launched its new feature, YouTube Recap 2025, which creates a personalized highlight reel of your watch history throughout the year. This feature works on both the mobile app and desktop, and provides a comprehensive overview of your top creators, favorite genres, and viewing habits. YouTube is touting it as an alternative to services like Apple Music Replay and Spotify Wrapped. With this feature, users can understand their online behavior throughout the year and share the reel with friends.

How Recap Shows a Personalized Summary of Watch History

According to YouTube, this feature creates a customized summary of each user's viewing patterns throughout the year, including the videos, creators, and genres they watched the most. It not only displays watch time, but also provides a deeper look at your content interests and trends, helping users understand what they spent the most time on online.

What You'll Find in YouTube Recap and How It Works
YouTube Recap transforms data into an entertaining and shareable highlight reel. Users receive up to 12 story-style cards, including personality types based on their favorite creators, top interests, and viewing habits. This feature is similar to Apple Music Replay and Spotify Wrapped, but YouTube tailors it specifically for video watching. The goal is to make data fun and engaging.

Trend Charts Also Released, MrBeast Remains Top Creator
Along with Recap, YouTube has also released trend charts for 2025, which reflect the preferences of American audiences. According to YouTube, MrBeast remains the top creator on the platform this year, while The Joe Rogan Experience is number one in the podcast category. Trend charts provide a comprehensive view of the most popular content this year.

How to create your own Recap, and when it will be available
Users can create their own highlight reel by going to the You tab in the mobile app and tapping the Recap banner. This feature is also available when visiting the Recap page on a desktop or phone browser. Once you log in, your 2025 Recap will be ready, which you can download or share. This feature has been rolled out in the US and will be available globally within the week. Once the feature is fully activated, a dedicated Recap button will also appear on the YouTube homepage.
