YouTube's major update: Videos will now be auto-dubbed in 27 languages, making things easier for millions of users..
YouTube has officially made its auto-dubbing feature available to all users. The company's Product Manager, Chandralekha Motati, stated that this feature was launched to make content accessible to a wider audience. This new Expressive Speech feature makes dubbing more natural and gives both viewers and creators complete control over the language.
What is Expressive Speech?
Often, AI-dubbed videos don't sound as engaging or natural as the original. However, YouTube's new Expressive Speech feature will preserve the emotional nuances of the voice. So, if the creator is shouting or expressing strong emotions in the video, the dubbed version will convey the same feelings. Currently, this feature is available in 8 languages, including Hindi.
Who Decides Which Videos Get Dubbed?
There's an AI-based smart filter that automatically identifies which types of videos are suitable for dubbing and which are not. For example, music videos, silent vlogs, or content without dialogue will be excluded from auto-dubbing. This will preserve the original nature and creative feel of the video, ensuring the content doesn't feel artificially altered.
Will This Affect Video Reach?
YouTube claims that the auto-dubbing feature will not negatively impact video reach; in fact, it will be beneficial. Because the video will be dubbed into other languages, people in other countries can watch it in their own language. This will increase the global reach of the content. Creators can also upload their own dubs or disable the feature if they don't need it.
Viewers Get Complete Control
The new update gives viewers complete control. They can choose their preferred language, and if they wish, they can watch the video in its original language. YouTube will not force a dubbed version on any viewer; the video will only be dubbed when the viewer chooses to do so. It is entirely up to the user's preference.
Working on Lip-Sync Technology as well
Not only that, YouTube is focusing not only on the present but also on the future. For this, the company is now testing lip-sync technology. With this technology, the lips of the person speaking in the video will move in sync with the dubbed language. This will make the dubbing sound more natural and the video viewing experience will be much better than before.
