YouTube's Major AI Move: It Will Now Automatically Detect Fake AI Videos; a Special Label Will Appear on Shorts and Videos..
AI-generated videos are rapidly proliferating across the internet. YouTube, in particular, is witnessing a surge in such content—videos that appear completely authentic to the eye yet are entirely created using AI. Some AI-focused channels have even earned millions of rupees simply by producing these types of videos.
Until now, creators on YouTube were required to manually disclose whether they had utilized AI in their videos. The platform would apply an "AI" label to the video only after receiving this disclosure. However, this system is now set to change.
**YouTube Will Now Automatically Detect AI Videos**
YouTube has announced that it will now automatically detect AI-generated videos using a combination of new internal systems and signals. If a creator fails to disclose their use of AI, but the system identifies significant amounts of photorealistic AI-generated content within the video, the platform will automatically apply the appropriate label to it.
However, this feature will initially focus exclusively on videos that appear completely realistic. This means that automatic labeling will not currently be mandatory for cartoon-style or animated AI videos.
**What Happens If a Video Is Mislabelled?**
If a video is mistakenly identified as AI-generated, creators will be able to visit YouTube Studio to update its disclosure status. However, in certain instances, the label cannot be removed. This includes content created using YouTube's own AI tools, such as Veo and Dream Screen. Additionally, videos containing C2PA metadata will also be classified as AI content.
**AI Labels Will Now Be More Prominent**
YouTube is also adjusting the placement of its AI labels. On long-form videos, the label will appear directly below the video player and above the description section. Conversely, on YouTube Shorts, the label will appear as an overlay positioned directly over the video itself. The company states that this change will enable viewers to immediately recognize when AI has been utilized in a video.
**Creators' Identities Will Also Be Protected**
YouTube has recently expanded the scope of its "Likeness Detection Program." This feature is now accessible to all creators aged 18 and older. Through this system, YouTube will be able to identify videos in which an individual's face has been copied or altered using AI technology. Following this, creators will be able to request the removal of such unauthorized videos.
Why has this step become necessary?
With the increasing use of AI technology, the threat of fake videos and deepfake content has also grown. Consequently, YouTube is now striving to introduce greater transparency on the platform, ensuring that users are aware of whether they are watching authentic videos or AI-generated content.
