YouTube has further improved its Premium Lite plan for its Premium users. A few months ago, the company disabled the free background play feature through the browser and began displaying messages like "content unavailable" to those using ad blockers. Meanwhile, the company has further improved its affordable subscription plan.

Major Update to Premium Lite
YouTube's base Premium plan offers all features, but it costs around $14 per month, which may be too expensive for many users. For this reason, the company previously launched a cheaper plan called YouTube Premium Lite. Until now, this Lite plan only allowed most videos to be viewed without ads.

Now, the company has announced on its official blog that Premium Lite users will also get background play and video downloads. This means you can now listen to videos while minimized and save some content offline to watch later.

Which videos will benefit?

According to the company, this benefit will be available for non-music content, and Shorts videos are not included. However, if you watch music videos or Shorts, this feature may not work there.

In which countries is this feature available?
This update is being rolled out to all countries where Premium Lite is already available. This list includes India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, Australia, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Poland, Singapore, South Korea, and several other countries. Indian users will also be able to take advantage of this change.

Pricing and Other Features
In the United States, YouTube Premium Lite costs $7.99 per month, which is significantly cheaper than the full Premium plan. In India, YouTube Premium Lite costs only ₹89.
