How to Turn Off YouTube Shorts: If you don't want to waste time watching Shorts on YouTube, you can now disable them permanently. A new setting has been introduced within YouTube specifically for this purpose.

How to Turn Off YouTube Shorts: If you are concerned about your own habit—or your children's habit—of watching Shorts, a solution to break free from it has arrived. If you wish to avoid wasting time on YouTube Shorts, you can now effectively remove them from the platform. A few days ago, the company rolled out a new setting that allows you to disable Shorts on YouTube forever. This feature is particularly useful for parents whose children have developed an addiction to watching Shorts. Today, we will show you exactly which setting to use to make Shorts disappear from your YouTube experience.

You Can Set the Shorts Viewing Limit to Zero

As soon as you open YouTube, Shorts appear alongside your regular videos. If you happen to tap on a Short just once, it is almost guaranteed that you will end up wasting the next 5–10 minutes watching them. The YouTube app does offer a "Show fewer Shorts" button, but this option remains effective for only 30 days. Consequently, Shorts are bound to reappear in your feed repeatedly. Last October, the company added a "time limit" option, which allowed users to set a minimum viewing duration of 15 minutes. Now, the company has updated this setting to provide an option to set the time limit to zero. This means that once you set the time limit to zero, Shorts will no longer play.

How to Set the Time Limit to Zero?

Open YouTube and tap on your profile icon.
Now, tap on the gear icon (Settings) to access the Time Management Dashboard.
Here, under the "Daily Limit" section, you will see a toggle switch for the "Shorts Feed Limit."
Tap on this option to reveal the time limit settings. Select "0 minutes."
After doing this, completely close the app and then reopen it.
Please note that, for the time being, this feature is available exclusively on the YouTube mobile apps. It has not yet been rolled out to desktop and TV apps, nor has any information regarding the company's plans for this become available yet.

Parents Gain Access to a Powerful Version

With the help of this feature, parents can now set the time limit for Shorts to zero on their children's teen accounts. This timer cannot be altered on teen accounts managed via Google Family Link or the YouTube Family Center. This means that parents will have greater control, and children will be unable to change this setting from their own accounts.
