If you are a parent worried about your child accidentally viewing inappropriate content online, there is no need to panic. You can permanently block such content by adjusting a few simple, often overlooked settings on your phone's browser and device. Enable the 'SafeSearch' filter in Google Chrome.
Google's built-in SafeSearch feature effectively filters out explicit photos, videos, and websites from search results. Activating this is simple; follow the step-by-step instructions below to make your smartphone, laptop, and desktop safe for children.

Open the Google Chrome browser on your phone or computer.
Type 'SafeSearch' into Google's main search bar and search for it.
Click on the 'SafeSearch settings' option that appears at the top of the search results.
You will see three options: Filter, Blur, and Off.
Select the 'Filter' option to completely block adult content.
With this setting enabled, Google will not display any results if a child accidentally searches for inappropriate terms.

Change the Private DNS on your phone
While Google's SafeSearch blocks explicit content in search results, it does not prevent a site from opening if someone types the URL of an inappropriate website directly into the browser. The Private DNS setting offers a definitive solution to this issue. Once this is changed, adult websites will no longer open on the phone.

To activate this, follow the steps below:

First, go to your smartphone's Settings.
Type 'Private DNS' in the search bar at the top (this option is usually found under Network or Connection & Sharing).
Click on Private DNS and select the 'Designated Private DNS' or 'Private DNS Provider Host Name' option.
Type exactly this into the empty box provided below:
`family.adguarddns.com` (or you can also use `family.cleanbrowsing.org`).

Save the changes.
Now, no pornographic websites or explicit videos will load on any browser on the phone (such as Chrome, Safari, or Edge); an error message will appear on the screen instead.
Use Chrome extensions for desktops and laptops.
If your child uses a computer or laptop for studies, browser extensions work best. Follow the steps below to activate them:

Open Chrome on your computer and visit the Chrome Web Store.
Type 'BlockerX' or 'Smart Internet Porn Filter' in the search bar and select 'Add to Chrome'.
After installing the extension, go to its settings and set a PIN or password so that the child cannot disable it.
Make sure to grant the extension permission to run in 'Incognito Mode' within the settings, preventing the child from bypassing the block by using a private tab.

Use the Google Family Link app for children's phones.
If you have given your child a separate smartphone, the Google Family Link app is a great tool. It is Google's official parental control app. You need to install and link it on both your phone and your child's phone. Once linked, you can block adult sites on your child's phone directly from your own device. You can also set limits on how long they use the phone each day. Additionally, they will not be able to download any apps from the Play Store without your permission.
