You will be able to chat within the YouTube app itself; the company has launched a new video-sharing and messaging feature in 40 countries..
Last year, YouTube began testing a new feature that allows users to share videos and interact with one another directly within the YouTube mobile app. Now, the Google-owned video streaming platform has announced the expansion of this in-app video-sharing and messaging feature to the US and other global locations. With this update, users aged 18 and older can connect directly on YouTube through their favorite videos. Previously, this feature was limited to users in Ireland and Poland.
YouTube's in-app chat feature is now available in 40 countries
The platform has announced the expansion of its in-app messaging feature to 40 countries, including Brazil, Italy, Singapore, the UK, and the US. It was previously available during a testing phase in Ireland and Poland. This feature boosts sharing activity within the platform itself, eliminating the need to share YouTube content links via other messaging apps like WhatsApp.
This in-app video-sharing and messaging feature allows users to share all types of videos—including Shorts and live streams—and chat while watching them. To share videos and react in real-time, users need to send an invitation by clicking the new messaging icon within the YouTube app.
In a blog post, YouTube stated, "We are excited about the user feedback from new markets and are ready to expand it further soon." YouTube had started testing this feature in November of last year.
Users aged 18 or older who are signed into their YouTube accounts can share videos and send messages on YouTube. To use this feature, users must have the latest version of the YouTube app installed on their phones.
How to share a video while watching content?
Open the YouTube app on your smartphone.
Find the video you want to share.
Tap the Share button. Select the contact you want to send a video to, or tap "Invite to message on YouTube" to send an invitation via another app.
To invite others to share content and exchange messages:
Tap "Messages" in the top-right corner of the YouTube app.
Select "Invite to chat."
Share the invitation link with the person you want to connect with.
The recipient will have the option to either "Allow" or "Decline" the invitation. If they accept, you can share videos and messages with them directly on YouTube. Please note that these invitation links expire seven days after they are created.
