X Update: Beware! Your X account could be locked in just 2 weeks, know here..
The X Safety team stated that users who used a hardware security key or passkey for two-factor authentication (2FA) must re-register their security key on X.com before November 10th. Users who fail to re-enroll their security key before November 10th will have their accounts locked. They will subsequently experience login issues and will need to re-register to regain access. X states that this is a technical update, not a security threat.
Security keys are currently linked to Twitter.com, and now they must be linked to X.com to allow the old domain to be shut down. Go to X.com, then go to Settings, then open Two-Factor Authentication under Privacy & Security. Re-enroll your security key or add a new one. If the account is locked, disable or reset 2FA.
Musk started a fintech company called X.com in 1999, which later became PayPal. Following the eBay deal, Musk repurchased the X.com domain in 2017, describing it as an "emotional connection."
