WWDC 2026: Apple's Siri becomes smarter than ever; robust features introduced for children's online safety as well..
Apple announced several major software updates at its annual developer event, WWDC 2026. The event's biggest highlights were the next generation of Apple Intelligence and a completely new Siri AI. The company claims that the new Siri is more intelligent, knowledgeable, and capable than ever before. It will not only answer questions but also perform various tasks for users.
**Siri Will Now Better Understand Your Needs**
The new Siri AI is deeply integrated across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro. It will provide better assistance by understanding the context of a user's messages, emails, photos, and other personal data. Siri will also be able to answer questions related to content currently displayed on the screen.
When necessary, it will gather up-to-date information from the internet to provide useful answers. Apple has also introduced a dedicated app for Siri, set to launch later this year. Within this app, users can review past conversations or start new ones. All this data will be synced privately and securely via iCloud.
**Apple Intelligence Boosted by Google Gemini**
Apple also announced a new version of its AI platform, Apple Intelligence, which originally launched in 2024. It now incorporates Google’s Gemini AI model.
Apple Intelligence introduces several new AI features across apps such as Photos, Safari, Image Playground, Messages, and Mail. Users will receive suggestions for creating notes and reminders, get automatic updates on important information, and benefit from improved capabilities like image generation.
The company states that AI-related user interactions will be processed directly on the device. While the cloud may be used when necessary, data will remain private and inaccessible to unauthorized individuals.
**New Safety Features for Children's Digital Security**
Apple has also introduced several new tools to ensure children's online safety. By creating child accounts, parents can now control which apps their children use, whom they communicate with, and what content they view on the internet. A "child account" will be mandatory for children under 13, while the facility will remain available for those up to 18 years of age. The system will enforce restrictions on websites, apps, and media content based on the child's age.
**Permission Required for Websites and New Contacts**
Apple has introduced a new feature called "Ask to Browse." This requires children to obtain parental permission before accessing any new website. Similarly, guardian approval will be necessary to connect with new people.
Apple has also strengthened its "Communication Safety" feature; it can now identify and block not only sexually explicit material but also violent and graphic content.
**Better Control Over Screen Time**
The company has completely revamped the "Screen Time" feature. Parents can now easily monitor how much time children spend on specific apps. Daily time limits can be set for categories such as entertainment, games, and social media.
Additionally, a scheduling feature allows for the control of app availability at different times of the day, helping children focus on their studies and other essential activities.
**New AI Features for Photo Editing**
Apple has upgraded its popular AI photo editing tools. A new "Spatial Reframing" feature allows the frame of a photo to be adjusted after it has been taken.
This technology creates the impression that the camera was positioned optimally at the time the photo was captured, thereby enhancing the composition and visual appeal of the images.
**Faster Performance Across All Apple Devices**
Apple has introduced iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27, all featuring various improvements. According to the company, iPhone and iPad apps will now launch up to 30% faster. Photo processing speeds will increase by up to 70%, and AirDrop transfer speeds will rise by up to 80%.
The company also states that switching between Wi-Fi and mobile networks will be smoother than before. Meanwhile, file transfer speeds from external drives to the iPad have been increased by up to five times.
New features have also been introduced for Health, AirPods, and Apple Maps.
The Apple Health app will now support perimenopause and menopause tracking. A 'Custom EQ' feature has been introduced for AirPods users, allowing them to tailor the audio experience to their preferences.
The Apple Watch will feature a new dynamic app grid and an improved 'Find My' capability. Additionally, Apple Maps has received an AI-enhanced 'Flyover' experience, enabling a more detailed view of cities and locations.
Apple believes that these updates will make its devices not only smarter but also more secure, faster, and user-friendly.
