Google has introduced several new updates for its Workspace users, spanning applications such as Gmail, Google Docs, Drive, Meet, Sheets, and Vids. With these updates, users can now open and edit Markdown files directly within Docs and Drive. Additionally, new voice-enabled features have been added to Gmail and Docs, allowing users to search for information or draft content using their voice. Furthermore, Google Meet now offers live translation in 63 languages. According to the company, these changes are being rolled out gradually to all Workspace users.

Directly edit Markdown files in Docs and Drive
Google Docs and Drive now support opening and editing Markdown (.md) files directly, eliminating the need for users to convert them into other formats. In Docs, users can add comments to these files and review previous changes via the "Version History" feature. When opening a Markdown file in Drive, elements like tables and links will appear in their correct, intended formatting. This functionality is particularly useful for those working with technical documentation or AI prompts.

Work using your voice in Gmail and Docs
Google has introduced voice-powered features called "Gmail Live" and "Docs Live." With Gmail Live, users can search for information within their emails using voice commands—for instance, asking about the date of a meeting or a project update mentioned in an older email. Meanwhile, Docs Live allows users to dictate their thoughts and transform them into drafts, such as project briefs or executive summaries. This feature can also aggregate relevant information from emails, chats, and files stored in Drive.

Live Translation in 63 Languages on Google Meet
Google Meet now offers real-time speech translation in 63 languages. During a meeting, it can translate what is being said and display captions in each participant's preferred language. Users can enable this feature according to their individual needs.

The 'Quick Notes' feature has also been updated. It will now provide a one-page summary of key meeting decisions and action items, alongside full meeting notes and a transcript.

Easier Transition from Microsoft 365 to Workspace
Google states that new migration tools can make the process of transferring data from Microsoft 365 to Workspace up to five times faster. This includes migrating Teams messages and attachments to Google Chat, OneDrive files to Google Drive, and SharePoint Online libraries to Shared Drives—all at no additional cost.

New AI Features in Sheets and Vids
In Google Sheets, 'Fill with Gemini' and the AI function can now reference web sources. Additionally, users can process up to 3,000 cells at once.

Meanwhile, Google Vids now offers an option to create AI-generated videos using Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash. Users can produce longer video clips, specify their duration, and enhance the video quality up to 1080p.
