Smartphone Size: For some time now, Samsung—along with other companies—has ceased manufacturing small phones and is instead focusing on devices with large screens. The reason behind this shift has now come to light.

Smartphone Size: Nowadays, if you look at the smartphone in anyone's hand, its size typically falls between 6 and 7 inches. The size of base models generally starts at around 6 inches, while "Ultra" models can reach up to 6.9 inches. Speaking specifically of Samsung, the company's latest flagship model—the Galaxy S26 Ultra—features a 6.9-inch display. However, it is not as if Samsung has always produced phones of this magnitude. In 2009, the company launched the i7500 Galaxy, which measured just 4.5 inches in length. Subsequently, the company released the Samsung Galaxy Pocket, which was only slightly larger than 4 inches. So, what exactly changed to prompt the company to stop manufacturing smaller phones?

Why Is Samsung No Longer Making Small Phones?

Over the past few years, Samsung has discontinued the production of small phones—a trend that is not limited solely to this company. Other manufacturers are also now prioritizing larger devices. Even compact "mini" models are gradually disappearing from the market. But why is this happening? Annika Bizon, Vice President of Product and Marketing within Samsung's Mobile Experience unit, has explained the rationale behind this shift. When asked on a social media platform why Samsung had stopped making small phones, she responded by stating that consumers now prefer phones with larger screens; consequently, Samsung is manufacturing devices that cater to this preference.

Why the Need for Large-Screen Phones?

Annika explained that people now utilize their phones for a wide range of tasks, including streaming content and gaming. Furthermore, smartphones have evolved into essential tools for connecting people to their work and business activities—functions that necessitate larger display screens. She also signaled that, for the time being, the company is not prioritizing the production of smaller phones. Users looking for a compact phone might want to consider Samsung's flip phones.

Flip Phones Are Back in Style

Alongside foldable phones, flip phones are also making a comeback. For the past few years, Samsung has been launching devices in its Galaxy Z Flip series. When needed, these phones can be unfolded to take advantage of a larger screen; conversely, once you are finished using them, they can be flipped shut and stored in a minimal amount of space.
