Where is the money going? Now ChatGPT will reveal the real truth behind your 'extravagance'..
OpenAI has introduced a new 'Finances' feature in ChatGPT, which will now allow users to directly link their bank accounts, credit cards, and investment accounts to ChatGPT. This means that ChatGPT will no longer be limited to offering generic budgeting tips; instead, by analyzing your actual income, expenses, and savings, it will provide personalized financial advice. With the arrival of this new feature, ChatGPT evolves beyond being just a smart AI chatbot to function as a personal money manager.
**All Financial Information Visible in One Place**
With this new update, a dedicated section named 'Finances' has been added to ChatGPT. Once a user links their bank and card accounts, they will see a dashboard displaying their spending habits, monthly subscriptions, upcoming bills, savings, investment performance, and other financial details—all consolidated in a single location. OpenAI states that the objective is to spare people the hassle of constantly switching between various banking apps, spreadsheets, and financial tools.
Users will now be able to easily understand where their money is being spent, which categories are consuming the largest share of their budget, and where potential opportunities for savings exist. For instance, if an individual's expenses suddenly spike, ChatGPT can analyze their transaction history to identify and explain the underlying cause.
**Which Users Have Access to This Feature Right Now?**
Currently, this feature is available exclusively to ChatGPT Pro users in the United States. The feature is compatible with both web and iOS platforms and supports over 12,000 financial institutions. The company notes that its initial priority is to observe and understand how users interact with this feature. Subsequently, it will be gradually rolled out to Plus users and made available in other countries as well.
**How to Link Your Bank Account in ChatGPT**
Getting started with this feature is quite simple. Users can navigate to the sidebar within ChatGPT, open the 'Finances' tab, and click on 'Get Started.' Alternatively, the process can be initiated directly within the chat interface by typing: '@Finances, connect my accounts'.
Following this step, ChatGPT will guide the user through the secure process of linking their accounts. To facilitate this, the company is utilizing a financial connectivity service called Plaid—a platform already employed by services such as Venmo and Robinhood. Support for Intuit is also slated to be added in the future.
Alongside this, OpenAI has introduced a new feature dubbed 'Financial Memories.' This feature enables ChatGPT to retain key financial details for future interactions—such as home loan specifics, savings targets, or loans extended to family members. Consequently, rather than starting from scratch each time, ChatGPT can leverage a user's historical data to provide more personalized and refined advice.
The company states that this capability will allow the AI to analyze data more effectively by cross-referencing various accounts, expenses, and financial goals.
**Regarding Privacy and Security**
According to OpenAI, once an account is linked, ChatGPT gains access to information such as account balances, transaction history, investments, and loans; however, it cannot view full bank account numbers, nor is it capable of making any changes to the bank account itself. Users retain the ability to disconnect their accounts at any time.
