WhatsApp is preparing to introduce another design change to its Android app. The company may roll out a new look for the settings menu, where various options will be housed within boxes featuring rounded corners. This could make it easier for users to locate settings related to their account, privacy, and notifications.

The new design is reportedly based on Google’s "Material Design 3 Expressive" guidelines. However, the feature is still in the development stage and is not yet available even to beta testers.

What will change in WhatsApp Settings?

According to a report by WABetaInfo, this new design has been spotted in the Android beta version 2.26.43.3. While this version is available on the Google Play Store, the new settings interface has not yet been released to testers.

In the current design, various settings options appear as a long, continuous list. In the new design, related options will be grouped into separate, rounded boxes. The corners of the first and last options in each group will be more rounded, while the options in between will appear connected.

This change could help users better understand which settings are related and where one section ends. The design may extend beyond the main settings menu to other individual settings pages as well.

A new look for Account, Privacy, and Notifications—the report suggests that WhatsApp might apply this design to sections such as Account, Privacy, and Notifications, meaning the options within these pages could also be reorganized using this new layout.

This update is said to be based on Google’s "Material Design 3 Expressive" design system, which focuses on enhancing the appearance and functionality of elements like lists, buttons, and navigation bars within Android applications. Work on further interface changes in WhatsApp is underway; beyond the Settings menu, the app is testing other design modifications for its Android version. These include a new bottom navigation bar that shrinks into a pill-like shape while scrolling, and expands back to its original size when scrolling upwards. Additionally, the company is working on a new chat bar. However, no official release date for these changes has been announced yet.

When will the new WhatsApp Settings menu arrive? Currently, the new Settings menu is in the development stage and is not yet available even to beta testers. WhatsApp has not specified when it will be released to general Android users, so it may take some time before it is rolled out.
