According to WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp feature tracker, this feature has been spotted in WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.26.35.3. A new "Agents" section may be introduced in the app's settings, allowing users to add and manage compatible AI services.

Users will also be able to set a name and profile picture for each agent. Reports suggest that users may be able to add up to five AI agents to a single WhatsApp account.

**AI Agent Connection via API Key**

Once an AI agent is set up, WhatsApp may generate an API key. This key must be entered into the service where the AI ​​agent is hosted. Subsequently, the agent will connect via a dedicated WhatsApp chat.

The setup process may vary slightly depending on the AI ​​service. If the connection needs to be reset, a new API key can be generated.

**No Access to Other WhatsApp Chats**

According to reports, the connected AI agent will be restricted to its own chat. It will not have access to the user's other personal chats, contacts, or media.

There will be no option to add AI agents to group chats or communities. Users will be able to change their agents' names or profile pictures via settings. Removing an agent will terminate the connection, though the old chat history may remain within WhatsApp.

**No End-to-End Encryption for AI Agent Chats**

A crucial privacy aspect of this feature is that WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption will not apply to chats with third-party AI agents. Messages sent to an AI agent may be processed via Meta's services by the agent's developer, and the developer may access these messages as part of their service. However, personal chats and calls between WhatsApp users will remain end-to-end encrypted, just as before. Currently, this feature is being rolled out to a limited number of Android beta users. Most users will not yet see the 'Agents' section in the settings. WhatsApp has not confirmed when it will be released to all users.
