WhatsApp's new feature will make several tasks easier, phone numbers can be saved directly from chats..
WhatsApp is introducing a new feature called "Smart Text Actions" for its users. This feature allows users to perform tasks directly within WhatsApp based on information found in chats—such as phone numbers, dates, times, email addresses, and physical addresses—eliminating the need to constantly switch to other apps. The feature is being rolled out to both Android and iOS users.
What is this new feature?
According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has begun rolling out the "Smart Text Actions" feature. Currently, it is available to a select group of users on the latest versions of the app for Android and iOS. The company is expected to gradually extend this feature to all users.
With this feature, WhatsApp will automatically identify key information within chats, including phone numbers, dates, times, email addresses, and locations. When the app detects such information, a dotted line will appear beneath it. Tapping or long-pressing this text will trigger a pop-up menu, offering various actions relevant to that specific information.
Shortcuts for everything from phone numbers to dates
If a phone number appears in a chat, users will have the option to copy it, save it to their contacts, or place a call directly. Similarly, if a date or time is mentioned, users can add it to their phone's calendar or create a new event.
Furthermore, if someone shares an address via WhatsApp, users can tap on it to open the location directly in a map application. Likewise, if an email address is shared, users can send an email directly through their default email app.
A new way to access existing features
While some of these capabilities already existed within WhatsApp, this new feature organizes them into a single, accessible location. It works for both incoming and outgoing messages. Users who prefer not to use these shortcuts can continue to read and send messages as they normally would. Through this feature, WhatsApp may also seek suggestions from users. After using a shortcut, a feedback option might appear on the screen, allowing users to indicate whether the suggested option was useful to them or not. However, WhatsApp has not yet announced the launch of this feature. It is understood that, for now, it is being rolled out to a limited number of users.
