WhatsApp Scam Alert Feature: A new feature is coming soon to WhatsApp designed to protect users from scams. It will display a warning alert to the user whenever a suspicious message is received.

WhatsApp Scam Alert Feature: Cybercriminals stop at nothing—and no platform—in their efforts to scam people. Since WhatsApp is one of the most widely used platforms globally, it frequently becomes a prime target for scammers. Scammers employ various tactics to ensnare people in their traps, ranging from "digital arrest" scams and fake job offers to sending phishing links disguised as investment schemes or enticing users with the promise of benefits from fraudulent government programs. In light of the continuous rise in such incidents, the company is currently developing a new feature titled "WhatsApp Scam Alert." This feature will enable users to identify suspicious messages, thereby helping them avoid falling victim to scams.

How Will the Scam Alert Feature Work?

According to reports, this feature is currently being developed for the Android version of WhatsApp. It will detect fraudulent messages originating from unknown contacts and display a warning alert to the user. Additionally, users will be provided with options to block and report the sender of the message. If a user determines that a message is safe, they can simply continue the chat without taking any further action. Much like the voice transcript feature, this new tool will operate entirely locally on the user's device. This means that messages will not be sent to Meta's servers for analysis; the entire process of detecting suspicious messages and generating alerts will be performed directly on the device itself. Consequently, this feature will have no impact on WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption.

The Scam Alert Feature Will Be Optional

It is reported that this feature will be entirely optional. It will remain disabled (off) by default. Users who wish to utilize this feature will need to manually enable it by navigating to the app's settings. Work on this feature is currently underway, and it is expected to be rolled out to beta users within the next few days. Once the testing phase is complete, WhatsApp plans to launch the feature for all users in a phased manner.

Paid Subscription Also Being Rolled Out

WhatsApp continuously introduces new features, and in line with this, the company is now rolling out 'WhatsApp Plus.' This is a paid subscription plan that offers users access to additional features and customization options in exchange for a fee. In Europe, it has been priced at approximately ₹280. It has not yet been launched in India, but it will soon be made available to Indian users as well.
