WhatsApp's New Feature! Users Can Now Identify AI Content—Here's How

WhatsApp is widely used across the country by people of all ages, from children to the elderly. Additionally, Meta frequently introduces new features to enhance the user experience. As part of this ongoing effort, the company is rolling out a new feature for iPhone (iOS) users that allows channel admins to indicate whether a photo, video, or other media used in a post was created or edited using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

This new "AI Content Label" is currently visible to select beta testers. It appears the rollout has begun on iOS following the Android release; however, the feature is not yet available to all users.

AI Content Label Now Visible

According to media reports, WhatsApp is making this feature available to select TestFlight users via the iOS beta version 26.34.10.70. Once available, channel admins will be able to label media within an update that has been created or modified using AI.

Admins will likely find the "AI Content Label" option in the channel update's context menu. After applying the label, it must be confirmed. Once the label is added, there will be no option to remove it.

When Will Everyone Get This Feature?

It is worth noting that WhatsApp has not yet clarified which countries will receive this feature or when the rollout to all users will begin.

If an iPhone user does not currently see the AI ​​Content Label option in their channel, there is no need to worry. WhatsApp may be rolling out this feature gradually to different accounts.

AI Disclosure May Be Mandatory in Some Countries

Reports indicate that AI-generated content is spreading rapidly across most social media platforms. In light of this, there is a growing need in many places to inform people whether a photo or video has been created using AI.

The report claims that in some countries, it may become a legal requirement for channel admins to disclose the use of AI-generated media. In such instances, WhatsApp could notify admins about this requirement by displaying a banner at the top of the channel interface.
