A few days ago, WhatsApp started testing the Cover Photo feature for Android users. This feature is similar to the background image feature found on Facebook. It allows users to set their preferred photo as the background of their profile picture. This can make the profile more attractive. Now, it is reported that the company is preparing to add this upcoming feature to iPhones. This was revealed in the iOS 26.1.10.71 beta update.
According to a WABetaInfo report, the Cover Photo feature was discovered in the iOS 26.1.10.71 beta update available on the App Store. Through this, a photo can be set as the background of the profile picture. Work has started on this. It will soon be released for beta users for testing.

Looking at the screenshot included in the tweet, it appears that WhatsApp is going to add a new option to its profile section, which will allow users to set a cover photo. This photo will appear at the top, and the profile information will be displayed below it. Its layout is similar to business profiles. This function is currently available to business users, allowing them to use their brand image as a cover photo. However, this feature will soon be available to personal account holders as well.
The report further states that users will be able to choose their preferred image from their photo library and set it as a cover photo, and they will also have the option to change or remove that image. It is believed that this feature will enhance the profile.
Rollout coming soon
WhatsApp's cover photo feature is currently under development. Testing is yet to be completed. It is being speculated that this feature might be rolled out to all stable users in mid-February or early March.
Recently Launched Features
Finally, it's worth mentioning that the instant messaging app WhatsApp recently rolled out three features for group chats: text stickers, event reminders, and member tagging. Starting with text stickers, this feature allows users to convert any text into a sticker. This can be used to react to any message in a group chat.
The event reminder is a very useful tool. This feature allows you to set reminders for important events or meetings in a group. The advantage is that everyone will receive a reminder about the meeting or event at the scheduled time, and you won't need to send separate messages. Member tagging allows you to tag any user in the group, making it clear who the message is directed at.
