WhatsApp will bring a chat clearing feature for Android users, making storage management much easier. Learn how.
Users using this version will find it much easier to delete messages or media from specific media categories.
WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will make managing storage much easier than before. According to a recent report by WabetaInfo, WhatsApp is rolling out a new chat clearing feature that will be available in its latest Android 2.25.34.5 beta update. Users using this version will find it much easier to delete messages or media from specific media categories.
The new feature will come with a real-time storage display.
According to the report, the latest Android 2.25.34.5 beta version introduces a new bottom sheet interface for deleting messages. This includes the option to view the actual deletion before confirming the action. This will help users decide what they want to delete from a chat, rather than the entire conversation. This could be photos, text messages, videos, or specific files like documents. This feature comes with a real-time storage display that shows how much space will be freed up after deletion. This is especially useful in group chats, where large video and audio messages can quickly accumulate.
Starred messages will ask if you want to save them when deleting a chat.
This new update also makes it easier to manage your starred messages when cleaning up a chat. For example, if you want to clear the entire chat but want to save the starred messages or media, this will be easier than asking for an additional step. For example, if you've starred an image, file, or important note in a conversation, you'll now receive a prompt asking whether to keep or delete them before completing the cleanup.
WhatsApp has also made this feature easier to find
WhatsApp has also made this feature easier to find. The 'Clear Chat' option now appears at the bottom of the chat info screen, just like it works on iOS.
When will you get it?
The new chat clearing update is currently available to a limited number of beta testers on Android. WhatsApp plans to gradually expand its reach before making it available to all users in the coming weeks.
