WhatsApp: WhatsApp Will No Longer Rely on Drive and iCloud! It Will Introduce Its Own Cloud Storage System..
WhatsApp Cloud Backup: New information has emerged regarding the most popular instant messaging app; according to reports, the company is currently working on introducing its own cloud backup system. This move by the company aims to end its long-standing reliance on Google Drive and iCloud. If WhatsApp launches its own cloud storage system, users will have the facility to store their chats and other essential data directly on the company's proprietary cloud infrastructure.
This will benefit users who frequently run out of their allotted free cloud storage space. With this new storage system, WhatsApp plans to offer users the choice to either utilize the company's own cloud backup provider in the future or continue using third-party services such as Google Drive and iCloud.
WhatsApp Cloud Storage: Free or Paid?
According to a report by WABetaInfo—a site that tracks WhatsApp developments—the company is currently testing a feature that will allow Android users to choose between Google Drive and WhatsApp's own cloud storage option for their backups.
Screenshots shared in the report reveal that the WhatsApp cloud storage service will offer up to 2GB of free storage for backups, alongside a paid storage plan of approximately 50GB, priced at around $0.99 (approximately ₹94) per month.
Users Frustrated by Limited Storage
It remains unclear whether this free storage will be available to all users or exclusively to those who have subscribed to WhatsApp Plus. Currently, Android users rely entirely on Google Drive for backups; its free tier provides only 15GB of storage space to save all of the messaging service's media files, documents, and chat history. Due to this limitation, there has been a growing demand for greater storage capacity and more flexible backup options.
