WhatsApp: WhatsApp introduces a new feature that lets you view photos, videos, and documents without opening the chat..
If you use WhatsApp for messaging and photo-video sharing, there's good news for you. The Meta-owned platform has started rolling out a new feature called Media Hub. This feature is available for both the web and Mac versions. With this feature, users can easily view all their shared media files—such as photos, videos, documents, and links—in one place, eliminating the need to search for files in each chat. Currently, this feature is available to a limited number of users and is expected to be rolled out globally soon.
New Way to Centralized Media Access
According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp's Mac and Web users are now seeing a new Media Hub option. This feature displays recent files shared across all chats—such as images, videos, GIFs, documents, and links—in one place. It's accessible via a dedicated button in the sidebar, making it easier than ever to find files.
Smart Search and Size-Based Sorting
Users can find files in the Media Hub using the search bar. There's the option to search by name, caption, or date sent. WhatsApp has also added a size-based sorting feature, allowing users to easily identify and delete large files, saving storage space on their devices. This feature could prove extremely useful for those who share large amounts of media daily.
File Management Made Easy
According to the report, the new feature also supports a multi-select option, allowing users to manage or delete multiple files at once. Media can also be sorted by timeline for quick access to older or more recent files. This makes the entire file management process easier and faster than ever.
Global Launch Soon, More Features to Come
According to WABetaInfo, this feature was spotted in development in May 2024 and is currently in testing for a limited number of users. It's expected to be released on all platforms after stability and user feedback. Meanwhile, WhatsApp also recently launched a new app for Apple Watch, which offers features like sending voice notes, viewing call notifications, and accessing chat history.
