WhatsApp announced several new features for its app on Thursday, ahead of the holiday season. According to the Meta-owned instant messaging platform, its new Missed Call Messages feature is a replacement for traditional voicemail and is designed to make it easier to connect with loved ones. Upgrades have also been made to Meta AI image generation, including the ability to animate images into short videos and improved generation quality.

New Features on WhatsApp
Missed Call Messages is a new feature on WhatsApp that allows users to record a note if the recipient is unavailable to answer a call. Depending on the call type, they can record either a voice or video note and send it with a single tap. "This new method will make voicemail a thing of the past," the company said in a blog post.

Users can also react during voice chats with new reactions like "Cheers!" without interrupting the rest of the conversation. Additionally, WhatsApp will now prioritize the speaker in video calls.

Furthermore, the instant messaging platform is bringing improvements to Meta AI image generation. It now features new image generation model capabilities from Flux and Midjourney. WhatsApp claims there's been a "huge" improvement in generating images, such as annual holiday greetings, ahead of the holiday season.

Meta AI has also introduced image animation capabilities. According to WhatsApp, users can turn any photo into a short video based on their given prompts and messages. On desktop, the app has a new media tab to easily sort documents, links, and media in chats. Link previews are also claimed to have an improved look.

One of the final changes is new stickers on Status. Users can add music lyrics, interactive stickers, and questions that others can answer. WhatsApp is also offering the question feature on Channels. The Meta-owned platform says this feature will allow admins to engage with their audience at a higher level and get responses in real time.
