SIM binding came into effect in India on March 1st. After this, WhatsApp will be required to reauthenticate users every few hours. Consequently, WhatsApp Web may log users out every few hours.

If WhatsApp Web is logging you out every few hours, it's not a glitch or a technical glitch. This is due to the implementation of new rules by the Indian government. The government has made SIM binding mandatory from March 1st. Your WhatsApp account must remain linked to the SIM card in your phone. If you remove the SIM card, the app will stop working. This rule will also affect WhatsApp Web.

What is SIM binding?

SIM binding means that all messaging apps, including WhatsApp and Telegram, can only be accessed on a device with the same SIM card used to register for the platform. If that SIM card is removed from the device, deactivated, or replaced with another SIM card, the app will automatically log the user out.

What will change after this implementation?

Until now, creating a WhatsApp account required a one-time verification process. This required entering the mobile number at the time of registration and verifying the number by entering the OTP received. Even if a user later removed the SIM card from the device, WhatsApp continued to function, but this is changing. Now, every few hours, WhatsApp will check to see if the same SIM card is on the device. Removing, replacing, or deactivating the SIM card may cause some WhatsApp functions to stop working.

WhatsApp Web will also be affected.

It's worth noting that WhatsApp is rolling out this feature only for Indian users. This decision will affect both the mobile app and WhatsApp Web and desktop. Sessions on both platforms may auto-log out approximately every six hours, requiring users to re-authenticate.
