WhatsApp Users Can Now Recharge Mobile Phones Directly from the App: Here’s the Full Process

WhatsApp has launched a new feature in India. With this update, users can now perform mobile recharges directly within the app itself. A new ₹ icon makes this process seamless; users can select plans from networks like Jio, Airtel, and Vi, and complete payments using UPI or a card. Let’s take a look at the complete procedure.

On April 23, WhatsApp launched a new—and highly practical—feature in India. You can now recharge your mobile number directly from within the app. This means you no longer need to switch to separate UPI apps or websites to perform a recharge. This facility is being provided in collaboration with PayU and is being rolled out gradually to both Android and iOS users. The feature is expected to become available to all users over the coming weeks.

Now, Recharge via WhatsApp—Alongside Chatting

Thanks to this feature, you can now recharge your own mobile number—or those of your friends and family—directly through WhatsApp. If you have a prepaid number from Jio, Airtel, or Vi, you can view all available recharge plans right there within the app and complete the transaction with just a few clicks. This eliminates the hassle of having to navigate between multiple different apps.

WhatsApp Adds a New ₹ Button

WhatsApp has now added a new ₹ (Rupee) icon to its home screen. This makes accessing the payments section easier than ever before. The icon serves as a quick entry point for users, allowing them to directly access UPI payments, mobile recharges, and even certain metro ticketing services. Most notably, you can now tap the ₹ icon from within any chat window to send money directly to your friends or family members via UPI.
