WhatsApp frequently introduces small features to make the app easier to use. Now, the company is rolling out a new feature for iPhone users. If you frequently make voice or video calls on WhatsApp, this update could be useful for you.

According to reports, WhatsApp is introducing a shortcut that allows users to change the 'Mic Mode' directly during a call. Previously, this required opening the iPhone's Control Center, but the option will now be available within WhatsApp itself. The feature is currently rolling out gradually, so it may take some time to reach all users.

What will change?

According to a report by WABetaInfo, this feature has been spotted in the WhatsApp for iOS beta version 26.27.74. Once it arrives on your phone, a new 'Mic Mode' option will appear in the 'More' menu during a call. Tapping it will open the iPhone's microphone settings, allowing you to select your preferred mode without disconnecting the call.

It is important to note that WhatsApp has not created a new microphone system; this is simply a convenient way to quickly access Apple's existing features. The selected Mic Mode will remain active for subsequent WhatsApp calls until you manually change it.

What is Mic Mode?
Apple iPhones offer four types of Mic Modes:

Voice Isolation – If there is a lot of background noise, this mode focuses solely on your voice, ensuring the person on the other end hears you clearly.

Wide Spectrum – This mode is useful if you want the other person to hear ambient sounds as well—for instance, during a party, meeting, or family gathering.

Standard – This is the default microphone mode with no specific adjustments.

Automatic – Introduced with iOS 18, this feature automatically determines the best Mic Mode for the situation.

Which iPhones will get it?
According to reports, using Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum requires iOS 15 or a newer version. This feature will work on the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and newer models. However, the Automatic Mic Mode will be available only on iPhones running iOS 18 or later versions.

This WhatsApp update has not yet reached all users; the company is rolling it out gradually. Therefore, if you do not see this feature on your iPhone right now, you will need to wait for a future update. The good news is that you will no longer need to repeatedly open the Control Center during a call, as you will be able to easily adjust the settings directly within WhatsApp.
