WhatsApp to give parents 'super control'; they will receive a message as soon as their child joins an unknown group..
Messaging app WhatsApp is introducing a ‘super control’ tool that will allow parents to closely monitor their teenage children's activities. Children often—knowingly or unknowingly—become part of groups that are unsafe for them. With WhatsApp’s new parental control features, parents will receive an immediate notification on their phones the moment their child joins any group. Furthermore, if a child is already in a group where the number of members suddenly surges, the system will alert the parents. This will make it easier to keep children away from suspicious networks.
Additionally, children will not be able to unilaterally relax their privacy settings. Decisions regarding who can view their profile photo or status, and who can add them to groups, will be made jointly by parents and the child. If a child wishes to alter these settings, they will require a PIN set by the parent; essentially, joining any group will not be possible without parental consent.
**Strict Oversight for Channels, Status, and Meta AI**
This control extends beyond standard chats; WhatsApp Channels and Meta AI will also fall within its scope. Parents will be able to determine which channels their child can follow and whose status updates they can view. Moreover, for children aged 13 and older, a ‘limited content’ option can be selected for Meta AI usage, ensuring they access only safe and appropriate information.
**No Compromise on Privacy**
Despite these stringent monitoring tools, WhatsApp has prioritized children's privacy. The platform has clarified that parents will not be able to read their children's personal messages or listen to their calls. All chats will remain end-to-end encrypted, just as before. The aim is not to spy on children, but to provide them with a safe digital environment. Parents can update or turn off these settings at any time, according to their needs.
