WhatsApp Tips: Your phone gallery won't be filled with useless WhatsApp photos, just turn off this one feature...
WhatsApp is a popular messaging app. It has become an important part of our lives. This platform, owned by Meta, is used to send files, images, videos, GIFs, and, yes, daily good morning texts. A lot of files are shared, often large, and deleting them becomes difficult. If you're one of those who struggle with deleting them from your gallery, we're here to help.
Here, we're telling you how to turn off auto-download for files and keep your gallery free of unwanted photos and videos. The process is different on iOS and Android. Let's learn how.
How to Turn Off Auto-Download on Android
Open your WhatsApp and tap Settings.
Find and open the Chats option.
Turn off Media visibility.
For specific chats
Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.
Click on Chats and open an individual or group chat.
Tap the contact or group name to open the contact info or group info.
Select No under Media visibility and tap OK.
For iPhone
Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.
Find and open the Chats option.
Turn off Save to Photos.
For specific chats
Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.
Click Chats and go to an individual or group chat.
Tap the contact or group name to open the info.
Under Save to Photos, select Never.
How to create a folder to hide all your WhatsApp photos in the gallery?
Download a file explorer from the Google Play Store.
Go to the images/WhatsApp images folder in the file explorer.
There, create a file named .nomedia, including a period.
If you want to view the hidden photos later, simply delete the .nomedia file.
Keep in mind that changing these settings won't affect the auto-download settings for existing chats or groups. On Android, files are automatically saved to the WhatsApp Media folder in local storage.
