A new love scam has emerged on WhatsApp. A 63-year-old man from Bengaluru fell victim to this WhatsApp love scam. He lost over ₹3.2 million (approximately $3.2 million) in a WhatsApp dating scam. The scammers trapped him for over a month. The prolonged fraud began on September 5th and continued until October 18th. A report was filed with the East Central Crime Police on October 23rd. This scam began with a phone call. Let's explore the entire story.

Talking about a dating agency over the phone
According to a Times of India report, the scammer first called the victim posing as a representative of a private dating agency. He claimed that the agency connects women with high-profile networks. However, membership was required. Registration was required to obtain membership, and a fee of ₹1,950 was required. The victim, believing the claim, transferred the money online.

Following this, the victim was sent photos of three women on WhatsApp. The victim had to select one of them. The victim selected a woman named Ritika. Ritika began chatting with the victim regularly and gained his trust through regular conversations.

After Ritika, Preeti targeted him.
However, when Dussehra arrived, Ritika told the victim she was going home and introduced him to another woman named Preeti. Preeti said she would meet him soon. Over the next few weeks, the victim was asked for money in the name of fees such as processing fees, service costs, and coordination expenses. Each time the victim transferred money, he was told that an additional payment would be required for the meeting.

In this way, the victim transferred over ₹32 lakh to several bank accounts in the hope of meeting the girl. When he refused to send more money, the scammers began threatening him with legal action. The victim then realized he had been scammed and contacted the police to file a complaint.

Police officials urged the public to be vigilant about such scams on WhatsApp or other online dating platforms, to avoid sharing personal information, and to report suspicious activity immediately.
