WhatsApp rolls out a new About feature. Learn how this update works, similar to Instagram's Notes.
This new feature gives you complete privacy control, allowing you to decide who can see your About status.
WhatsApp New Feature: WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature, and it may seem similar to Instagram Notes. It's actually an update to WhatsApp's old About status. If you look at how this feature works, you can share a short text update or emoji, and the short text update shows your current status, mood, or availability. This update will now appear more prominently in one-on-one chats and on your profile. Your contacts can reply directly to your About status by tapping on it, making it easier to initiate a chat.
Updates will automatically disappear after 24 hours.
By default, this update will automatically disappear after 24 hours, similar to Instagram Notes. However, you can set the timer to a shorter or longer time as desired in Settings. This gives you complete privacy control, meaning you can decide who can see your About status, such as only your contacts, or you can limit it through your privacy settings. This feature is especially useful for those who prefer a simple, text-based update instead of a WhatsApp Status (a photo/video story).
Steps to set up 'About' in WhatsApp
- Open WhatsApp
- Launch the WhatsApp application on your phone.
- Go to Settings.
- On Android, tap the three dots in the top-right corner and then select Settings.
- On iPhone, tap the Settings tab in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap your profile and, in the Settings menu, tap your name and profile photo at the top.
- This will open your profile information.
- Go to the About section, and you'll see your current update next to About on your profile screen.
- Tap About and you can choose from pre-set options like Available, Busy, At school, At the movies, and others. You can write your custom description by tapping the pencil icon below "Currently set to" or any other option and save it.
- After writing the custom description, tap the Save button or the Back button.
- Now, whenever someone views your WhatsApp profile, they will see your new About details below your profile photo and name.
This way, you can use the About feature to add your current status, a favorite quote, a song lyric, or any other update, and let your contacts chat with you based on your About status.
