Messaging will become more expensive for companies, while new mobile recharge options—specifically those without data—will become available. The start of October is also significant for those planning to buy home electronics, as some companies are preparing to adjust prices due to rising costs. Increased Messaging Costs on WhatsApp Business
From October 1st, messaging charges for companies on the WhatsApp Business Platform will change. In India, the rate for ‘Utility Messages’ is ₹0.115 (11.5 paise) per delivered message; with 18% GST added, this comes to approximately 14 paise. This change will not affect regular WhatsApp users; customers will not have to pay any fees to chat with friends, family, or business accounts. The change primarily concerns the cost of ‘Business Messages’ sent by companies.
More Recharge Options from Jio, Airtel, and Vi
Under new TRAI regulations, telecom companies are required to offer ‘Voice-only’ and ‘SMS-only’ plans. These plans will not include mobile data. For the validity periods where companies currently offer plans containing calls, SMS, and data, they must also provide data-free options for durations of 30 days or less. These plans must be priced lower than the corresponding plans that include data. Additionally, companies must offer at least one plan that can be renewed on the same date every month.
ACs, TVs, and other appliances may become costlier
Buyers of home electronics may face price changes ahead of the festive season. According to reports, some companies might raise AC prices by approximately 5% to 8% due to rising costs. There are indications of a 2% to 3% price hike for LED TVs and washing machines from some manufacturers, while certain TV companies are planning increases of around 7%. Prices for refrigerators and other home appliances are also expected to rise by about 3% to 4%.
New law regarding banking records to come into effect
The Bankers’ Books Evidence Act, 2026, will come into force on October 1, replacing the old 1891 legislation. The new law grants legal recognition to banking records stored in electronic, digital, virtual, and cloud formats. These records can be authenticated using manual, digital, or electronic signatures.
Google to test AI computing in space
Google’s ‘Project Suncatcher’ will also be in the spotlight starting October 1. The company will explore the potential of AI computing in space using its first test satellite. This prototype will feature four Google Tensor Processing Units (TPUs). The objective is not to establish a data center in space at this stage, but rather to observe how AI chips perform under space conditions.
