WhatsApp May Soon Launch a New CarPlay App: Find Out What Features to Expect

WhatsApp may soon introduce a new app for Apple CarPlay to make messaging easier and safer while driving. With this update, users will gain access to a simplified interface, a chat list, and calling features. Let’s take a closer look…

WhatsApp is set to launch a new native app for Apple CarPlay, which will make messaging while driving significantly easier and safer. Currently, this feature is available to iOS beta users and is undergoing testing. The objective of this update is to provide users with a simple visual interface—rather than relying solely on voice commands—allowing them to use WhatsApp directly via their car’s infotainment screen.

Until Now, WhatsApp on CarPlay Relied on Siri

Up until now, WhatsApp on CarPlay functioned exclusively through Siri, allowing users to listen to incoming messages and reply using voice commands. However, with the new update, users will be presented with a visual interface where they can view recent chats and easily select contacts. Nevertheless—with safety in mind—the ability to read full chat threads or scroll through lengthy conversations will not be provided, ensuring that a driver’s attention remains focused on the road. This change will be particularly beneficial for those who need to quickly check important messages while driving.

The Most Notable Feature of This Update

The standout feature of this update is the “Chat List,” which will display recent conversations. This allows users to instantly identify who they need to communicate with, while also providing information regarding unread messages and recent activity. If a specific contact does not appear in the list, users will also have the option to initiate a new message. Additionally, a dedicated section for calling will be included, consolidating incoming, outgoing, and missed calls in a single location. This will make it easier for users to return calls and engage in necessary conversations without wasting precious time.

The Design of This Update Will Be Quite Simple

WhatsApp’s new CarPlay app will be built upon a simple and safety-oriented design philosophy. It will support both Light and Dark modes and will focus solely on essential features to ensure the user’s attention remains on the road. Currently, the app is undergoing beta testing via TestFlight and is expected to be rolled out to all users in the near future. It is anticipated that this update will launch globally once the testing phase is complete.
