WhatsApp: Through this feature, users could create a digital character resembling themselves. It offered various customization options, including facial features, hairstyles, and clothing.

A change is taking place within the messaging app WhatsApp that many users might not even notice. According to reports, Meta is now gradually phasing out the 'Avatar' feature from the app. This change is being implemented in a phased manner across both Android and iOS platforms.

Using this feature, users could create a digital character that looked like them. It provided various customization options for facial features, hairstyles, clothing, and more. This avatar could be displayed alongside a profile photo and could also be used as stickers within chats. Over time, the company had even added features like animations and dual-profiles to further enhance the user experience.

Following the new update, users will neither be able to create new avatars nor edit existing ones. The option is also being removed from Settings, Chat Info, and the keyboard interface. Some users have already started receiving in-app notifications stating that avatar editing is no longer available. In many instances, the entire Avatar section has vanished, making it clear that the feature is being completely removed.

This change is not rolling out to all users simultaneously but is being deployed gradually. This is why many people are not noticing it immediately. However, the update is expected to reach all users in the coming weeks.

If you have previously used avatar stickers, the good news is that they will not disappear instantly. You will still be able to use them from your 'Favorites' or 'Recent Stickers' sections. However, creating new avatars or accessing them directly via the keyboard will no longer be possible.

Although Meta has not officially provided a reason for this move, it is widely believed that the feature failed to gain significant popularity. The majority of users still predominantly prefer using their actual photos, emojis, and standard stickers. If you use WhatsApp, this change may slightly affect your experience. However, while it will not have any major impact on the app's other features, it demonstrates that the platform continuously adapts in response to user behavior.
