WhatsApp is no longer just an app for sending messages and making video calls. The company has launched a bill payment feature in India, meaning users no longer need to open separate apps to pay electricity, water, or gas bills; payments can be made directly within WhatsApp.

Notably, WhatsApp has leveraged the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network for this service. This gives users access to approximately 22,722 billers across 30 categories, covering payments such as electricity, gas, water, FASTag, insurance, credit cards, and loan installments.

WhatsApp offers flexibility in payment methods as well; users can pay bills using UPI, debit cards, or credit cards. Essentially, just as you send money to someone on WhatsApp, you can now settle various essential bills within the same app.

The feature offers more than just bill payment capabilities. Users can manage multiple accounts with a single biller, view past payments, and track upcoming bills. There is also an option to save frequently used billers for quick payments.

**UPI Payments Already Introduced**
This move reinforces WhatsApp's "all-in-one app" strategy for India. The company has already introduced features like UPI payments and mobile recharges. By adding bill payments, WhatsApp is gradually evolving from a messaging app into a platform for everyday financial tasks.

Currently, the feature is being rolled out in phases to Android and iPhone users and will become available to a wider audience in the coming weeks. This means that in the near future, everything from remembering an electricity bill to actually paying it could happen within the very same app where people check their messages first thing in the morning.
