WhatsApp is getting this amazing feature; parents will be able to keep an eye on their children. Learn how..
WhatsApp is used by millions of people worldwide, including in India. The company is constantly introducing new features to improve the user experience. Now, the company is once again taking a major step towards enhancing the safety of underage users on its platform. Recent reports suggest that the messaging app is testing a new feature that will allow parents to control the privacy and interactions of their children's accounts.
According to a recent report by WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, the company is developing a new system called Secondary Accounts for users under 18 years of age. This feature is currently in the development phase and may appear in the Android beta version in different regions.
What is a Secondary Account?
In simple terms, Secondary Accounts will be designed specifically for children and teenagers. These special accounts will be linked to a Primary Account, which would belong to a parent or guardian. The two accounts will be connected through a special link.
Parents will have these controls.
The report suggests that the parent account will be able to manage several privacy settings of the child's account. For example, the Primary Account will have the option to set who can see the child's profile picture, last seen status, and About information. The ability to turn Read Receipts (blue ticks) on or off will also be available.
Additionally, parents will have control over who can add their child to groups. However, while parents will receive some updates related to their child's activity, they will not be able to see chat lists, call logs, messages, or call transcripts.
