WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to hide certain parts of their messages. To view the hidden message, the other person will have to tap on it. Let's learn more about this feature.

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that may remind many users of platforms like Reddit. The company is preparing to introduce spoiler formatting for text messages. This feature will allow you to hide parts of a message. The other person will only be able to see your hidden message by tapping on it.

This feature was first reported by WABetaInfo, which monitors upcoming WhatsApp updates. According to the report, this option has appeared in the latest TestFlight build for iOS and has also been spotted in the beta version for Android. Let's take a closer look at this feature.

How will the spoiler formatting feature work?

When this feature launches, you'll find the spoiler option where you currently find formatting tools like bold, italic, and strikethrough. If you mark a part of a message as a spoiler, that text will appear hidden behind a gray bar. The other person will tap on it to read the hidden text.

There's also news that WhatsApp is preparing to provide a shortcut for this. Users will be able to type double pipes (||) before and after the text they want to hide. For example, if you type ||this text||, that part will automatically be hidden. This method is similar to Reddit's spoiler tag, so many users will find it easier to use.

Currently, this feature appears to only work on text messages. There's no confirmation yet on whether spoiler tags will be available on images, videos, or voice notes in the future.

When will this feature arrive?

WhatsApp hasn't yet clarified when this feature will be released to all users. However, it has been spotted in beta versions for both iOS and Android, suggesting it's in the works. It's worth noting that not all features seen in beta will go live immediately.
